Utermohlen Art Exhibit Catalog

Price: $10.00
The 28-page catalog published in conjunction with the Pursuing the Ephemeral, Painting the Enduring: Alzheimer's and the Artwork of William Utermohlen exhibition has 51 color reproductions and six scholarly essays. For more than 12 years, portrait artist William Utermohlen’s mind slowly unraveled after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He attempted to understand his changing experiences through the mechanism he knew best – by painting himself. The ensuing works offer a rare glimpse into the ravages of Alzheimer’s on one’s sense of self and one’s relationships with others. The exhibition and catalog collectively serve as the centerpiece of an interdisciplinary effort to better understand the devastation of Alzheimer’s upon the individual and his or her loved ones. During the gallery opening reception, Illinois Wesleyan faculty in nursing, psychology, philosophy, art and poetry presented the original works, interpretation and scholarship found in the catalog.
